Auction description:
Lot number 79
Sale Price Not Sold
Make & Model Austin-Healey 3000 MkIIa BJ7
Registration WTN 376A
Year 1962
Colour Ivory White
Engine Size 2,912 cc
Chassis No. HBJ7L/20052
Engine No. 29F/RU/H666
V5C; due to have a new MOT; invoices; Heritage Certificate; engineer's report
As the Heritage Certificate confirms, this MkIIa was built in June 1962 for the American market and was originally Ivory White with black trim and a black hood. Equipment included overdrive, wire wheels, a heater, adjustable steering column and mph speedometer.
Little is known of the subsequent history of the car until it returned to the UK in early 2015 when it was acquired by the vendor and professionally converted to RHD by Healey specialist Peter Ellis of Northampton. An engineer's report from Ellis states that the conversion to RHD: "Has been done in the correct manner, fulfilling the correct safety criteria and utilising new parts at the very least compatible to the original design and quality."
The brakes were also overhauled with various new parts including new rear drums and reconditioned calipers, a new radiator and windscreen were also fitted along with a new set of Vredestein tyres, the car flying through its MOT in May 2015 with no advisories recorded.
The engineer's report further states that: "Following a test drive I can confirm that the steering, road holding and braking system perform to a very satisfactory level. Furthermore, the vehicle has been imported from a 'dry' state of the USA and is in remarkably sound condition."
Since the car arrived on these shores it has only covered some 3,500 fine weather miles and has been kept garaged when not in use. Appearing to be in good condition all round and retaining its original twin-carb engine, this 'matching numbers' Healey is due to have a new MOT in time for the sale and is ready for a new owner to enjoy right away.
AMENDMENT; Bidders are advised that this is a BJ7 and not a BT7 as catalogued
