Auction description:

1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Roadster

Lot No. 1033

Auctioned on Friday, July 17, 2015

High Bid of $ 30,000

This vehicle is still for sale. If you are interested in making an offer, please contact one of Auctions America's Car Specialists

"Compare prices, models, colors power and performance as most sports car experts already have. See for yourself why there are more British Motor Corporation sports cars on the road than those of all other makers combined" said, Car & Driver magazine in June of 1962. The unique styling of these little cars made them very popular amongst the public. They continue to become more collectable as the years go on.

This 1962 Austin Healey 3000 Mk II BT7 is equipped with a side-shift transmission and triple SU carburetors. It also marks the final production year of the true "Big Healey" roadsters, prior to the BJ7 with its roll-up windows. With 132 horsepower, the inline six-cylinder engine has plenty of power for a car its size. A four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive keeps the control in your hands. Independent front suspension with wishbones and coil springs, rigid rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs makes for a smooth comfortable ride. Hydraulic front disc and rear drum brakes allow for safe deceleration.

The unique steel wheels with hubcaps are wrapped in brand new tires. The paint has been recently corrected in Old English White with Colorado Red. The interior has been refinished and the battery has been replaced. The owner states that this Austin-Healey has "excellent mechanicals." This beautiful two-door convertible has been California owned since 1979.

Lot #263029

This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mk II spent decades in California and was refurbished at some point before joining the collection of Jimmy and Julianne Rawls in South Carolina. The selling dealer purchased the car out of the Rawls’ collection in 2025. Three SU carburetors feed the 2.9-liter inline-six, which is paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The vehicle has been repainted in white and red over red upholstery with white piping. Equipment includes a red tonneau cover, 15″ ventilated steel wheels, hubcaps, front disc brakes, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a wood shift knob. This BT7 is now offered with owner’s handbooks, manufacturer’s literature, a tool kit, and a Pennsylvania title.

The car has been repainted in white and red and features headlight stone guards, a grille badge, a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The vehicle comes with a red tonneau cover but lacks a convertible top.

Chrome-finished 15″ ventilated steel wheels wear hubcaps and are mounted with 165/85 Nexen SB-802 tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.

The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats that have been retrimmed in red upholstery with white piping. Interior appointments include a cabin heater, door-panel storage pockets, a passenger-side grab handle, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a wood shift knob, and black carpeting.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths white-dial instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 50k miles, approximately 50 of which were added by the selling dealer.

The 2.9-liter inline-six featured triple SU HS4 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 136 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. The trunk-mounted battery was replaced in 2025.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive.

The Pennsylvania title notes “Exempt” under the Odom. Miles field and “Exempt from Odometer Disclosure” under the Odom. Status box. The title also lists the car’s Body Type as an abbreviation for “coupe”.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
