The striking example in bold Colorado Red and complimenting red interior has lived a cherished life. Now restored, the car was originally acquired by a wealthy New Zealand industrialist to join his collection of 1950's and 1960's predominantly English sports cars. In 2002, his collection of 44 sports cars were stored in a museum and a group of enthusiast were invited to act as trustees for the cars. The museum is now a tourist attraction in Auckland, New Zealand. Prior to this, in 1995, the car was subject to a complete nut and bolt restoration in NZ by Austin Healey/MG specialists. The chassis and body were completely stripped and rebuilt with photographic documentation in the history file. Several new parts, including windscreen, new suspension, brakes and steering were used. The gearbox and differential were completely overhauled. The engine was reconditioned with mostly new parts - cylinders were re-sleeved, new pistons, new rings, re-bored and the crankshaft was attended to. Invoices include 742 hours labour for the engine and gearbox work alone. Correspondence between the restorer and the previous owner shows both parties were fastidious perfectionsists. A post restoration inspection and road test conclude that the Healey was an 'outstanding example' and it 'drove like a new car' and that the restoration 'had not been overdone'.

Today the car is offered with a new hood and tonneau. The interior has worn its years well and is in excellent condition. The vendor describes this car as being in overall very good or excellent condition, save one or two paintwork imperfections. All duties and taxes have been paid, the car will be offered with one year's MoT test certificate, original Austin Healey Driver's Handbook and Swansea V5 Certificate in the comprehensive history.

    Registration 432 UXF
    Chassis Number H-BT7-L/1027
    Engine Number 29D-U-H/1291
    Odometer reading 20,157
    Estimate £32,000 - £38,000
In 2004 the Healey was repatriated into the UK where it has resided ever since. Today the car looks resplendent in Colorado red with ivory flanks, complemented by a nicely patinated red leather interior and a wood rimmed Mota-Lita steering wheel. The vendor states that the car drives very well and has the benefit of the optional overdrive fitted. The mohair hood and side screens are in excellent order. The 3000 sits upon four chrome wire wheels with good tyres; a fifth chrome wheel and tyre sit as a spare within the boot area where there is also a battery cut-off switch. The chrome work is in very good order and looks recent, and a look underneath reveals an excellent painted underside giving confidence that the car is in good sound order with no horrors being hidden beneath underseal. An inspection of the substantial history file reveals recent works carried out by UK specialists since its repatriation and also includes photographs of the restoration, correspondence between owner and restorers, invoices, old tax discs, old MoT certificates and articles about the Austin Healey sports cars. An Austin Healey 3000 Mk. I and Mk. II driver's handbook also accompany the car, along with an MoT test certificate valid until October 2013 and we are informed that a historic road fund licence will be obtained prior to sale. This is a very smart Healey that appears to require nothing other than to enjoy. With Healey prices on a steady rise, it also represents an opportunity to acquire the model at a sensible price.

This superb Austin Healey 3000 Mk I BT7 is a matching numbers car that was manufactured in May 1959. The car was exported to New Zealand where it spent much of its life until 2004. In the early 1990s the car was subject to a nut and bolt restoration that was completed in 1995. The chassis and body were completely stripped and rebuilt. Where it was necessary new parts were used; including windscreen, new suspension, brakes and steering. However as much of the original car was kept and refurbished to preserve the originality.

The gearbox/overdrive and differential were also completely overhauled. The engine was reconditioned with mostly new parts. The cylinders were re-sleeved, new pistons and rings fitted, a reconditioned crankshaft and rebore was carried out. New hood, tonneau cover and side screens were also fitted at this time. A correspondence between the then owner and restorer shows that both parties were fastidious perfectionists. The car was then acquired by a collector to join his collection of 1950`s and 1960`s predominantly British sports cars. In 2002, his collection of 44 cars including this Healey formed a display at a motor museum in Auckland.

The Healey was repatriated into the UK in 2004 and has been enjoyed ever since. The car looks splendid finished in Colorado red over old English white, complemented by a red leather interior and a wood rimmed MotaLita steering wheel. The mohair hood and side screens are in excellent order. The chrome work is in very good order, in line with the rest of the paintwork, including the underside of the car. An inspection of the substantial history file reveals recent works carried out by UK specialists since its repatriation. This also includes photographs of the restoration, correspondence between owner and restorers, invoices, old tax discs, old MoT certificates. This is a very elegant Healey that appears to require nothing other than an open road.
