This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is believed to have been first sold by Continental Cars of St. Louis, Missouri, and remained with the original owner until 2006. In 2008, following approximately two decades off the road, the previous owner began a bare-metal refurbishment that included rust remediation, a repaint in the car’s factory shade of Metallic Golden Beige, an interior re-trim in black leather, and a rebuild of the 2.9-liter inline-six. The 2+2 roadster wears a replacement black soft top, top boot, and tonneau cover and rides on 15″ wire-spoke wheels. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and further equipment includes dual SU carburetors, front disc brakes, and a custom wood-rimmed steering wheel. Acquired by the owner in January 2016, this Mk III is now offered by the seller on their behalf with a service blanket, car cover, workshop manuals, spare parts, a maintenance log, a Austin-Healey Concours Registry certificate, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Wisconsin title in the name of the owner’s LLC.
The body was specified from the factory in Metallic Golden Beige, and was stripped to bare metal and media blasted before a section of a rear fender was replaced along with the inner and outer sills. The seller tells us that the car was then finished to match and fitted with a replacement black soft top. A black top boot and tonneau cover are included in the sale, and further exterior details include a driver-side fender mirror, Lucas PL tripod headlights, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The seller notes flaws in the front bumper.
Silver-finished 15″ wire spoke wheels are mounted with 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes.
The 2 + 2 cabin houses seats that have been reupholstered in black leather. Wood trim adorns the dash, and further appointments include a heater, front lap and shoulder belts, and quarter-vent windows.
The custom wood-rimmed steering has engine-turned spokes and is paired with a wood shift knob. Smiths instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer was reset upon completion of the refurbishment and now shows 1,300 miles, approximately 300 of which were covered under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six breathes through dual SU HD8 carburetors fitted with pancake-style Coopers air cleaners. Work performed as part of the aforementioned rebuild undertaken circa 2008 involved machining of the block and fitting custom pistons with low-friction skirts. The fuel tank was drained and serviced in October 2020, while work in August 2024 involved resetting the valves, changing the engine oil, and flushing and refilling the coolant. The battery was replaced in August 2025.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The seller notes an oil leak between the engine and transmission.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists the vehicle’s original specifications and deliver information.
A service blanket will accompany the car along with a car cover, workshop manuals, spare parts, and a maintenance log.
