This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is finished in British Racing Green Dark over black leather and is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a top boot, a tonneau cover, a hood scoop, a cabin heater, and front bucket seats. The car was acquired by the seller in 2023, and work has since involved rebuilding the generator, adjusting the valves, and replacing the sway bar bushings, carburetor gaskets, and oil pan gasket. This 3000 Mk III is now offered at no reserve with the owner’s manual, a shop manual, an initial purchase order, a car cover, and a clean Washington title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in British Racing Green Dark (GN29) and features a top boot, a tonneau cover, a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders. A replacement black soft top was installed in 2017. The seller notes paint blemishes, a ding and bubbling on the deck lid, and rust-through in the trunk well. The driver’s door latch occasionally sticks.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 180HR15 Michelin XAS tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The sway bar bushings were replaced in 2023.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats that were reupholstered under prior ownership in black leather with red piping, and interior appointments include a cabin heater, a center console, a locking glovebox, and wood trim. There are cracks in the finish of the wood trim.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 51k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. Work in 2023 included rebuilding the generator and replacing the oil pan gasket and carburetor gaskets. A valve adjustment was performed in 2024.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock-de Normanville electric overdrive. Leaks are noted from the steering box and differential and the undercoating is flaking.
