This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was completed on November 26, 1965, and initially dispatched to California. It was acquired by the current owner around 2006, and a subsequent refurbishment by Vintage Restorations Limited in Union Bridge, Maryland, spanned approximately five years between 2008 and 2013. Work involved repainting the body in British Racing Green, refreshing the black interior, and overhauling the 2.9-liter inline-six, the four-speed manual transmission, the overdrive unit, the suspension, and the brakes. Equipment includes a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, a hood scoop, a cabin heater, and interior wood trim. This 3000 Mk III is now offered in Pennsylvania on consignment by the selling dealer, a BaT Local Partner, with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, service records, and a Maryland title listing the car as a 1967 model.
Finished from the factory in Ivory White, the car was repainted British Racing Green following rust repairs and the replacement of metal as part of the refurbishment work, which was completed around 2013 by Vintage Restorations Limited, and a collection of refurbishment photos can be seen here. A replacement black soft top was also installed, and the car is equipped with a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
Knock-off 15″ wire wheels are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classics tires, and a spare is stored in the trunk. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The 2+2 cabin features black leather upholstery, and interior appointments include a cabin heater, wood trim, and an extension for the dash-mounted mirror.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation, including a 140-mph speedometer that sticks intermittently. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles, approximately 11k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. The pistons, bearings, and wiring harness were replaced during the work completed in 2013, and the cylinder head was resurfaced. A battery cutoff switch is installed. In preparation for the sale, the engine oil was changed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The transmission and overdrive were rebuilt during the refurbishment.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate shows factory equipment and indicates that the car was completed in left-hand-drive, North American export specification and dispatched to Compton, USA on December 2, 1965.
The current Maryland title carries a “Not Actual Mileage” odometer code.
