This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was dispatched in December 1965 and delivered new to a dealer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The car spent time in several states before undergoing a multi-year refurbishment at JMD Restorations of Platte City, Missouri, that was completed in 2013. Work involved repainting the body in Colorado Red and re-trimming the 2+2 seating in beige leather as well as overboring the 2.9-liter inline-six. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and further equipment includes a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a tan soft top along with front disc brakes and 15″ knock-off wire wheels. This 3000 Mk III was acquired by the current owner in 2023 and is now offered on dealer consignment with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment records, and a Kansas title.
Factory finished in Colorado Red (RD2), the car was reportedly fitted with a replacement front bumper, hood, and fenders after being damaged in an accident in the early 1970s. It was later repainted following further bodywork as part of the aforementioned early 2010s refurbishment. A replacement beige soft top was also fitted at that time. Further details include a hood scoop as well as chrome bumpers with overriders.
The 15″wire wheels are secured by two-ear knock-offs and mounted with 165-width Vredestein tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats that were re-trimmed in beige leather in the course of the previously mentioned refurbishment. Burl walnut wood accents the dash, and additional interior appointments include a Smiths heater as well as quarter-vent windows and hand-crank side glass.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel is mounted to an adjustable column and frames black-dial Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 76k miles, and the selling dealer states that total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. This unit was bored .030″ over and fitted with oversized pistons as part of the previously mentioned refurbishment completed in 2013.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists production information and colors as well as a build date of November 16, 1965, and delivery to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Kansas title lists “Antique” under the Vehicle Record Notations and Vehicle Brands sections.
