This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired around 29 years ago by the seller and was reportedly refurbished in the late 1990s. The car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive and is finished in blue and white over blue leather upholstery. Equipment includes a dark blue soft top, Pertronix electronic ignition, dual SU carburetors, a digital AM/FM radio, front disc brakes, and chrome knock-off wire wheels. This Austin-Healey is now being offered with a tonneau cover, a car cover, shop manuals, manufacturer’s literature, spare wheels and parts, and a clean New Mexico title in the seller’s name.

The car was repainted metallic blue and white in the late 1990s, reportedly following replacement of the doors and both front fenders, along with welded patches on the rear doglegs and rocker panels. Exterior features include a dark blue Stayfast soft top and matching boot cover, along with fender-mounted side mirrors, twin exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers and trim. The seller notes uneven door gaps, and various scratches, chips, and other imperfections can be seen. A tonneau cover is included in the sale.

Replacement chrome knock-off wire wheels are said to have been tuned and balanced in preparation for the sale and are fitted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A matching spare is found in the trunk. Braking is through front discs and rear drums. Work during the refurbishment is said to have included installing splined wheel hubs and replacing the king pins and bushings. Five spare wheels and an uninstalled rear sway bar will accompany the vehicle.

The 2+2 cabin houses seats trimmed in dark blue leather with matching door panels. Black mats line the darker blue carpets, and amenities include a digital push-button AM/FM radio, a Smiths analog clock, chrome fire extinguisher, and a dash-mounted rear-view mirror.

A Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that was reportedly refurbished approximately five years ago and includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary displays. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 56k miles, around 2,500 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The removed steering wheel is included in the sale.

The 2.9-liter inline-six is said to have been rebuilt during the refurbishment and fitted with replacement dual SU carburetors around five years ago. The seller notes that the cylinder head has been modified to accept unleaded fuel, and an alternator has been fitted in place of the factory generator. Additional modifications are said to include Pertronix electronic ignition, a stainless-steel exhaust system, cast-aluminum oil pan and valve cover, an oil cooler, a spin-on oil filter, upgraded radiator core with an electric fan, and a negative ground electric conversion.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. According to the seller, the gearbox was rebuilt during the refurbishment in the late 1990s and fitted with a replacement first gear layshaft, bearings, and synchro rings. Additional work at that time is said to have included rust repairs on the chassis, seam-welding the floor pans, replacing the trunk floor and framework around the trunk opening, and installing steel bracing on the firewall around the transmission opening.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
