This 1964 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car is finished in Colorado Red over black leather, and features include a black convertible top, 15″ wire wheels, front disc brakes, a hood scoop, and a cabin heater. The current owner acquired the car in 2004, and subsequent work included overhauling the interior, and replacing the clutch hydraulic components and steering box. This 3000 Mk III is now offered on dealer consignment with the owner’s manual, service records, a car cover, and an Idaho title.
The car is finished in Colorado Red and features a hood scoop, bright trim, a top boot, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The selling dealer notes that the black convertible top was installed in 2024.
The 15″ chrome wire wheels are secured by knock-off spinners and are mounted with 165/80 Classic Radial LL800 All Season tires. The car is equipped with front disc brakes and rear drums. According to the selling dealer, the brakes and suspension were overhauled prior to the current owner’s acquisition in 2004. The steering box was replaced in 2014.
The 2+2 cabin features front bucket seats and rear individual seats upholstered in black leather with white piping, along with a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Interior appointments include wood dash trim, a cabin heater, and a locking glovebox. The interior was refurbished in 2004 and 2005, which included replacing the carpeting and seat upholstery.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 71k miles.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU HD8 carburetors and was factory rated at 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. The selling dealer states that the engine was rebuilt prior to 2004. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale, and a compression test showed results between 140 and 160psi across all six cylinders. The selling dealer notes that the carburetors should be balanced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The clutch cylinders were replaced in 2012.
