This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was purchased by the seller in 1988, and it was refurbished in Healey Blue and Ivory White in 2010. The car has been retrofitted with air conditioning, cruise control, an alternator, PerTronix electronic ignition, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. Powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, the car is equipped with a replacement black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a top boot, a hood scoop, a cabin heater, and front bucket seats upholstered in black leather. This 3000 Mk III is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, a workshop manual, service records, spare parts, a luggage cover, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
The car was painted in British Racing Green from the factory, and it was refinished in Healey Blue and Ivory White in 2010. The seller tells us that evidence of previous damage repairs to the left side was discovered during the repaint, and that rust was addressed when it was discovered under current ownership. A replacement black soft top, chrome bumpers, and mirrors have been installed, and additional details include a top boot, a hood scoop, a front badge bar, driving lights, tonneau cover supports, and a boot-mounted luggage rack. Paint chips are noted, there are imperfections in the windshield, and the side window plexiglass has scratches.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 185/70 Verdestein Sprint Classic tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. A replacement brake master cylinder was installed in 2016, per the seller.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in replacement black leather fitted in 1995, and the seller notes that new carpeting was also installed under current ownership. An aftermarket Vintage Air in-dash heat and air conditioning system has been fitted, and additional appointments include lap belts, a billet aluminum shift knob, an aftermarket overdrive button, a cabin heater, a locking glovebox, and wood trim.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 92k miles, approximately 37k of which were added under current ownership. A cruise control system has been installed, and the controller is mounted in the ashtray.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU HD8 carburetors, and it has been retrofitted with a finned aluminum valve cover, an aluminum radiator, PerTronix electronic ignition, an alternator, and a stainless-steel coolant overflow reservoir. The seller notes that a replacement wiring harness was installed in 2018, and the oil is said to have been changed annually under current ownership.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The clutch hydraulic cylinders are said to have been replaced in 2018, and that work in 2024 reportedly included rebuilding the transmission and overdrive unit, along with replacing the clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. The seller notes an audible “click” when the clutch pedal is depressed, though the clutch operates normally. A replacement stainless-steel exhaust system has been installed.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate lists colors, equipment, and dispatch to the USA on 5 October 1967. A workshop manual, a jack, a tool roll, an Austin-Healey-branded luggage cover, tonneau cover supports, and spare parts are included in the sale.
