This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is a 2+2 roadster that is finished in green over a black interior and was purchased by the seller in 2000. Power is from a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and additional equipment includes a black soft top, a luggage rack, and an aftermarket CD stereo. New rear wire wheels, front shocks, and rear axle splines were installed, the brakes were overhauled, and the clutch hydraulics were rebuilt in 2019. This BJ8 is offered with a tonneau cover, a top boot, repair manuals, service records from 1984 onward, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.

The car was given a color change to its current green under previous ownership, reportedly following rust repairs. Features include a black soft top, a driver’s bullet mirror, wing windows, and a chrome luggage rack. A tonneau cover and top boot are included in the sale.

Painted 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 165-series Vredestein Sprint+ S80 tires. The rear wheels were installed in 2019 and a matching spare wheel is stored in the trunk. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The front shocks and rear axle splines were also replaced in 2019, and the brakes were overhauled according to the seller.

The 2+2 cockpit is trimmed in black leather with matching carpets and burl wood dash veneers. Amenities include a heater, lap belts for three occupants, a map light, an aftermarket CD stereo, and a flexible equipment mount. Wear on the seats, wood veneer, and passenger door panel is visible.

A banjo-spoke steering wheel with an aftermarket cover frames a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a five-digit odometer displaying 91k miles. Approximately 7k miles have been added by the seller, with total mileage unknown. Secondary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature are mounted to the left.

The 2.9-liter inline-six is fed by dual SU carburetors and was rated at 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque when new. Fluids were reportedly flushed and rubber hoses replaced in October 2019.

Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and an electrically-actuated overdrive unit. The clutch hydraulics were overhauled in October 2019 according to the seller.

The sale includes service records said to date from 1984 onward as well as a collection of repair manuals.

This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is a green-over-black 2+2 roadster that was purchased by the seller on BaT in June 2021. Before driving the car from New Jersey to California, the seller commissioned a mechanic to install an aluminum radiator, a six-bladed fan, and replacement tires. Once the car was in California, the top frame was refurbished, a replacement Everflex top was installed, the wire wheels were repainted, the seats were re-dyed, and the dashboard wood, the combination gauge, and the rear-wheel spline hubs were replaced.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
