This 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 Mk II was ordered new by the seller through Tourist International in July 1962 and delivered to Port Covington in Baltimore, Maryland, via the Cunard Steam-Ship Company in April 1963. Chassis HBJ7L22216 has since remained with the seller, who commissioned a four-year refurbishment completed by Tsikuris Classics of Lakeland, Florida, in 1998. Work involved repainting the body in red and re-trimming the interior in red leather as well as rebuilding the 2.9-liter inline-six and retrofitting a Toyota-sourced five-speed manual transmission. Chrome 72-spoke wire wheels, latch-and-link lap belts, dual fuel pumps, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and a replacement black soft top were also added as part of the project, and the car is further equipped with a Moto Lita steering wheel, dual SU carburetors, and front disc brakes. This 3000 Mk II is now offered with a Body Production Card, sales and importation documents, and other vehicle literature in addition to a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission, a spare set of wire wheels, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Colorado Red, the body was repainted at Revival Autos of Naples, Florida, as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. A replacement black soft top as well as retrofitted brake lights. The hood features a chrome-trimmed scoop, and additional brightwork includes fender-mounted mirrors, front-fender flash trim, external trunk hinges, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
The chrome 72-spoke wire wheels measure 15″ in diameter and are secured by two-eared knock-offs. 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires are mounted at all four corners, while braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The 2+2 cabin houses seats that were reupholstered in red leather with black piping at the time of the refurbishment. RJS Racing latch-and-link lap belts have been fitted up front, and a fire extinguisher is affixed to the parcel shelf out back. Additional interior appointments include a Smiths heater as well as a dash-mounted rearview mirror, an upholstered center armrest, and a chrome passenger-side grab handle.
The wood-rimmed Moto Lita steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer flanked by oil-pressure/coolant-temperature and fuel-level gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 98k miles, approximately 4k of which have been added post-refurbishment.
A silver-painted 48-spoke spare wrapped in an older Michelin X tire is housed in the trunk along with the battery and tire-changing tools.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HS6 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 136 horsepower with 167 lb-ft of torque. An overhaul of the engine as part of the refurbishment included installation of balanced five-ring pistons, dual fuel pumps, a spin-on oil filter adapter, a replacement wiring harness, a replacement cooling fan, a fan shroud, and a stainless-steel exhaust system.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a retrofitted Toyota five-speed manual transmission that was installed utilizing a Smitty’s conversion kit.
The Body Production Card lists the factory configuration, features, and colors as well as the chassis and engine serial numbers. Manufacturer’s literature, refurbishment records and photos, service records, and various marque publications and periodicals are also included in the sale along with an event poster featuring a Donald Healey signature as well as a copy of the September 2017 issue of Healey Marque Magazine in which the car appeared.
The car is further accompanied by a rebuilt factory four-speed overdrive transmission and prop shaft, a set of 48-spoke wire wheels, a California Car Cover, a tonneau cover, and a convertible top boot.
