€50,000 - €75,000 EUR

The classic “Big Healey” in practical 2+2 configuration

Invited to join the Mille Miglia in 2021 and eligible for future participation (subject to entry criteria and inspection)

Powered by its matching-numbers 2.6-litre inline-six engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive

Completed by the factory in May 1957 and delivered new to Jacksonville, Florida in left-hand-drive form

Originally equipped with optional features including a heater, laminated windscreen, and wire wheels

Subject to over €19,000-worth of cosmetic and mechanical improvements at the instruction of the consigning owner between 2013 and 2016

Accompanied by a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT) certificate and a copy of a FIVA Identity Card issued in 2014; offered with an invitation to join the Automobile Club de Monaco

As shown by this 1957 example, the 100-6 was also offered in 2+2 configuration. The BN4, as it was known, added rear seats that made driving with more than one passenger possible. This larger and more powerful model retained the classic sports car spirit that made its immediate predecessor, the four-cylinder Austin-Healey 100, a success on both sides of the Atlantic.

According to the accompanying British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, this 100-6 BN4 was completed by the factory on 10 May 1957. A US-specification car delivered to Jacksonville, Florida, it was built with equipment including wire wheels, overdrive transmission, a laminated windscreen, heater, a speedometer reading in mph, and standard tyres. It was originally finished in duotone Florida Green and Ivory White over a black interior, with matching black convertible top.

While much of this Austin-Healey’s early life is not documented, at some point the car’s colour was changed to white. Eventually ending up in the hands of the consigning owner, an enthusiastic collector and keen road rally driver, they spent over €19,000 on cosmetic and mechanical improvement between 2013 and 2016 (invoices available to view on file). The car was invited to participate in the 2020 and 2021 editions of the Mille Miglia—known as one of the most beautiful races in the world—and remains eligible for future participation (subject to entry criteria and inspection). This is a lovely and useable example of a car that can be enjoyed on future rallies to come.

To help maximise the experience of the concerning buyer, the consignor offers to invite the new owner to become a member of the Automobile Club of Monaco, the exclusive and tradition-rich club that organises—among other classic car events—the Monaco Grand Prix, Monaco Rallye Historique, and more.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
