Lot #235440

This 1954 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 roadster is believed to have been sold new to its first owner in Atlanta, Georgia, before being acquired by its second owner in 1981. Acquired by the owning dealer in 2024 following a period of storage, the car is finished in black and silver with red pinstripes and accompanied by a black Plastic Dynamics hardtop as well as a red soft top. Power is from a 2.7-liter inline-four fitted with dual SU carburetors and an alloy cylinder head, while shifting is through a three-speed manual transmission. Inside, red vinyl–trimmed bucket seats are joined by a banjo steering wheel as well as a Smiths heater and instrumentation. Further details include a stainless-steel exhaust system along with drum brakes and 15″ knock-off wire wheels. This BN1 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owning dealer in Lake Bluff, Illinois, with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s handbook, a service manual, tools, accessories, and an Arizona title.

Finished from the factory in black, the car was repainted in its current black and silver paint scheme at some point under previous ownership. Red pinstripes adorn the body sides, and further details include a fender-mounted mirror, an adjustable windscreen, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The roadster is accompanied by a black Plastic Dynamics hardtop as well as a red tonneau cover, soft top, and side curtains. The seller notes various paint imperfections around the body as well as holes in the tonneau cover. The Lucas auxiliary lights are not connected.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-ear knock-offs and mounted with 165-width Michelin XAS tires. Braking is handled by drums at each corner, and replacement lines were installed in 2024.

The bucket seats are trimmed in red vinyl, which extends to the center armrest as well as the door panels. Further interior appointments include a Smiths cabin heater along with a dash-mounted mirror, door pockets, and lap belts. The clutch pedal and heater duct hose were replaced in 2024.

The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles, approximately 100 of which were added under current ownership. The fuel level gauge does not work.

The 2.7-liter inline-four was equipped from the factory with dual SU carburetors. The seller tells us that an alloy cylinder head from Dennis Welch Motorsport was installed in 2006 and that the valve cover gasket was replaced in 2024.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. A stainless-steel exhaust system was installed in 2006. The seller notes several leaks underneath the car.

An owner’s handbook and service manual are included in the sale along with tools and other items.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate notes a build date of November 8, 1954, and lists selected colors, options, and equipment as well as identifications numbers.

The engine number is listed as the VIN on the current Arizona title.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
