Ebay item 10/29/07

Current bid $10,300 reserve not met, 8 bids, 5 days left in auction. Buy it now price $23,000. 79k miles.

Sellers description:
1954 100/4 Austin Healey, the best-looking of all the Healeys, in my opinion, especially because of the 2-seat body style. Re-painted British Racing Green in 1998, major mechanical work done in 2004. This car turns lots of heads and is a treat to drive. It is a 3-speed with functioning overdrive. I bought this car in May of this year and have driven it only about 50 miles. Due to extenuating circumstances, the car is now up for sale for someone else to enjoy. It is a true British, top down, wind-in-the-hair roadster experience. More so when you fold the windscreen down to its racing position.

Tires are Bridgestones in nice condition; the spare is new and unused. Tonneau is like new and the top is very usable, with a reasonably clear window. Side curtains are included in a non-stock pouch. Also included are bumpers and their brackets, all in good condition, though the bumpers need rechroming. I prefer the look of the car without the bumpers, but all new nuts, bolts, and washers will be included for proper mounting.

The floors and rails appear to be in very good condition with minimal surface rust. Without the means to raise the car for better inspection, I can only speak to and picture what I can with the car at floor level. The only rust problem I have found is in the trunk--one small hole (about quarter size) where the right rear fender meets the floor of the trunk. There is evidence of bondo below the trunk lid (which is a rare aluminum lid) and on the cowl below the grill. I am no body and fender expert so I can't say if there is bondo elsewhere. The car seems to be very straight with the exception of a small dent in the left front fender. This dent looks like it could be removed through paintless dent removal, but I can't say for sure. Total receipts (included with the car when I purchased it) for all paint and body work came to $4878.59, completed in 1998.

In April of 2004, according to receipts that came with the car when purchased, new parts included: pistons, camshaft sprocket, conn rod, crankshaft sprocket, timing chain, main bearing set, rod bearing set, clutch disc, ring gear, pressure plate, cut(?) flywheel, and numerous other parts. Total receipts for mechanicals (parts and labor) came to $4500 ($2667.29 in parts).

I had installed a new stainless exhaust system from Moss Motors, but have otherwise done nothing more than replace the battery. All electricals function except the horn. It drives smoothly, stops well (slight pull to the right was noticed) and shifts without grinding. Some whine when in reverse.

Sellers description:
Austin Healey 100-4 BN1 1954, overdrive British Racing Green in very good condition

The Austin Healey 100-4 BN1 series is a 2 seat roadster, built between 1953 and 1955. This is a 1954 British convertible in very good condition. The car has paint in colour British Racing Green and a black leather interior. The paint, chrome and interior are in a fabulous condition. The car also has overdrive, chrome wire wheels and a black softtop. The 100 in 100-4 means a top speed of 100 Mph (160 Kmh). This was made possible by the 2660 CC 4 cyl engine with double carbs and the power of 90 HP. The car drives great. So a very beautiful Austin and a good investment.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
