Car to be at auction 3/12
www.coys.co.uk/auction.php
Auction description:
Lot 324 - 1959 Austin Healey 3000
Estimate: £35,000 - £4,000
Registration Number: CSL 989
Chassis Number: H-BN7-L-2106
CSL 989 was exported to North America in 1959. It was repatriated and first registered in the UK some 36 years later i.e. 1995. When it returned chassis CSL 989 was subject to a body off restoration, photographs of which are available in the cars file.
Work included stripping the engine, rebuilding the gearbox, Body stripped to bare metal and the Chassis wax-oiled internally . Over the following 4 years it covered only 1,200 miles when ownership changed in 2000. At this time the car was checked out by Healey specialists Murray Scott-Nelson at a cost of £1,586.72 with written valuation at then current market price of £25,000.00
In 2001 the stainless steel exhaust was replaced with a through flow exhaust and big bore manifold to increase bhp -work was carried out by Dennis Walsh Motors at a cost of £3,000. Also fitted at this time were new rear leaf springs and shocks along with new engine mountings. According to the vendor the car now not only sounded great but really started to handle superbly.
The present owner, purchased the car in 2004 and describes its condition as near concours.
CSL 989 was latterly prepared and took part in a continental winter challenge in 2006, finishing without problems.
The Austin Healey is often considered to be the ultimate classic rally car, CSL 989 has participated in The Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique and finished the 2007, 2009 and 2011 events without mechanical and body damage. Anyone having had the good fortune to compete will tell you how hard it is on both car and passengers!! According to the vendor this car has stood this test and has been totally reliable.
In January 2012 Rustbuster carried out a full underbody and suspension treatment with cavities injected with cavity wax and the exhaust silencer ceramic coated at a cost exceeding £400.00
Finished in red, with a black interior CSL 989 comes complete with a FIVA identity card and a heritage certificate. An opportunity to own a much loved and sorted Healey- not to be missed.
