Current Bid: $25,000 Ends In: 6 days

Aucton description:
This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was reportedly purchased in 1969 by its second owner, who parked it from 1973 until it was acquired by the seller in October 2010. A subsequent rotisserie refurbishment included stripping and repainting the body, installation of a new top, interior refreshment, and overhaul of its 2.9-liter inline-six. Over 7k miles have been added since the build was completed in 2012. This BJ8 is offered in Winnipeg with a BMI Heritage Trust certificate, original bill of sale, manual, Shelley jack, spare parts, covers, and Manitoba registration in the seller’s name.

Work prior to repainting included repairing some minor collision damage with a new front shroud sourced from England, media blasting the body and frame, and a rust repair on the driver-side floorboard. The car was then repainted in its original British Racing Green using single-stage urethane.

A new front bumper, black soft top, and halogen headlights were installed after the paintwork was completed. Chrome Dunlop 60-spoke knock-off wire wheels are fitted with Vredestein tires, and were recently balanced along with the rear brake drums according to the seller.

The black interior has been refurbished with new carpets, insulation, a rally-style shift knob with overdrive switch, an aftermarket wood-rimmed steering wheel, and black floor mats with Austin-Healey lettering.

The 5-digit odometer indicates just over 43k miles, with the seller adding approximately 7,300 over the past eight years. The seller describes the foam in the seats as showing its age, factory-style wood veneers show cracking, and wear on the upholstery includes a burn mark on the rear backrest and a small split seam on the driver’s outer bolster.

The 2,912cc inline-six is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and Laycock de Normanville electrically-actuated overdrive. The engine was overhauled by the seller using the following components:

Original pistons and standard crankshaft
Upgraded crankshaft damper
Stellite exhaust valves and hardened seats
Stainless BJ7-style exhaust
Solid-state SU fuel pump with auxiliary pump
Texas Kooler fan blade with auxiliary electric fan
AGM battery and alternator upgrade

Mechanical and assembly work during the rebuild was performed personally by the seller, and service since the project was completed included a recent oil and filter change.

A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate and the original dealer bill of sale are included along with an owner’s manual, keys, and Shelley jack. A factory 40-amp generator, exhaust brackets, banjo steering wheel, tonneau cover, top boot, and storage cover come with the car.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
