Very Nice Solid Driver Quality 1966 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MKIII with only 57960 miles on the odometer. I purchased this car with the intention of keeping it as a weekend "beach" car, but I just don't have the room for it anymore. The car has just received a thorough checkup/maintenance and is ready for a new owner to enjoy for years to come. The VIN is HBJ8L/34693 and the engine and transmission are original to the car. It is stored under a cover in the garage.
WHEELS and TIRES
It has 4 new Chrome Wire Wheels and a nice set of new radial tires. Original spare is in the trunk.
INTERIOR
The seats, armrest, and panels are gray leather, steering wheel and wood are original.
The carpet looks like it had been replaced in the past and is in nice condition. All knobs and switches work correctly. Someone added a period Smith's vacuum gauge at some point during the car's life in the center of the dash. It's a multi-colored retro dial that looks cool and actually functions.
BODY
This car has had one respray on the body (originally Healey Blue) in a nice glossy black. Front and rear bumpers are nice originals and all the chrome and brightwork is good with just some aging around the windshield frame. As a driver, this car has some minor flaws here and there but nothing major. I had this car checked out when I bought it and the only areas showing any rust are the floorboards but they weren't ready for replacement. No signs of any accident damage and the original blue paint is apparent on the undersides which indicates the panels are likely all original to the car.
ENGINE
The engine is original and runs great and has lots of smooth power, starts easily, and does not smoke. The engine compartment is very nicely detailed. Like all original survivor British Cars...it leaks a little bit of everything.
TRUNK
The trunk of this car is also nicely detailed with the the spare wheel, spare tire, hold down strap, trunk lining, and new battery.
OTHER INFORMATION
All mechanicals (wipers, lights, vents) work correctly with the exception of the overdrive (I have not had time to get it checked out further). Brakes are solid and have nice stopping power with no pull or squeeks. Car tracks true. The top is in useable shape, shows no leaks during carwashes, and the back plastic window has only minor yellowing.
SUMMARY
This 47 year old Healey 3000 MKIII is in great shape and ready to enjoy this summer and for many summers to come. It is ready to enjoy from day one of your ownership. If you plan to build a high dollar restored Big Healey this would also be an ideal and very straight example to start with.
