Auction description:
Lot number 20
Sale Price £15,000
Make & Model Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII BJ8 Phase 2
Registration N/A
Year 1965
Colour Green
Engine Size 2,912 cc
Chassis No. HBJ8L33915
Engine No. 29KRUH/8373
Documents US Certificate of Title; NOVA reference; Heritage Certificate

As the accompanying Heritage Certificate confirms, this last-of-the-line MkIII Phase 2 was built in November 1966 for the American export market and was originally British Racing Green with black trim, wire wheels, overdrive, a heater and an adjustable steering column. Despatched to New York at the end of the month, it was to remain in America for the next 45 years before finally returning to these shores about six years ago.

Being offered here as a straightforward restoration project, we are advised that the engine still turns freely. It comes with the aforementioned Heritage Certificate, a US Certificate of Title and a NOVA print-out showing that all duties have been paid.

With good examples routinely fetching well over double the modest guide price suggested here, it should amply reward the remedial works now required and could easily be converted to RHD using a kit of parts readily available from the many specialists that serve this model.

As shown by the photo of the engine serial number plate, the correct engine serial number is 29K/RU/H8537, not /H8373. Also, the build date was in November 1965, not November 1966.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
