This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was built in September 1964 and delivered new to a dealer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was purchased by the current owner in 2012 and received a mechanical and interior refurbishment in 2015 that included a rebuild of the numbers-matching inline-six, the installation of a Toyota five-speed manual transmission, and more. It is finished in Colorado Red with a black canvas soft top over a replacement black leather interior. This 3000 BJ8 is now offered its original transmission, service records, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, a tonneau cover, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.

According to the seller, the exterior was stripped and repainted in its factory Colorado Red by the previous owner. The car is equipped with a replacement canvas soft top, as well as a top boot cover sourced from AH Spares in England.

15″ chrome wire wheels wear Nexen tires that were reportedly prepared and balanced by Hendrix Wire Wheels in Greensboro, North Carolina. Work commissioned by the seller included the installation of replacement suspension components and a rebuild of the braking system.

The interior is trimmed in black with silver piping and features replacement leather seat covers from AH Spares in England, replacement carpets, and a replacement backseat shelf. The front bucket seats are equipped with lap belts.

The three-spoke banjo-style steering wheel fronts a wood-trimmed dashboard that houses Smiths gauges, climate controls, and an aftermarket Pioneer head unit with USB connectivity and a detachable blanking plate with the 3000 logo. The car is reportedly equipped with a replacement wiring harness, and the electrical system has been converted to negative ground. The seller has added 4k of the 38k miles shown, and true mileage is unknown.

The 2.9-liter inline-six was rebuilt by Elite Vehicle Restorations of Denver, North Carolina, in 2015 with a .030″ over piston set, new bearings, new gaskets, and more. Other work included machining, Magnafluxing, and boring the block, and installing a five-speed manual transmission from a Toyota Celica. Equipment includes a replacement exhaust system and a resurfaced flywheel. The oil was last changed in May 2019, and the original four-speed manual transmission is included in the sale.

Engine number 29K/RU/H3694 matches the number listed on the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate also matching transmission stamping.

The trunk contains a spare wire wheel, a spare tire tie-down, the battery, and a battery cutoff switch.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows the build date, factory colors, and equipment.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
