Austin Healey 100-6 BN6 that was the subject of a comprehensive open checkbook restoration completed in 1987. The 100-6 won the “People’s Choice” award at the All British Field Meet in Portland, Oregon after the restoration was completed. Purchased in 1986 from a long time owner. I would characterize the 100-6 as an excellent “survivor” car prior to restoration.

Sellers description:
Rust-free, low mileage, number matching Austin Healey100-6 BN6 that was the subject of a comprehensive open checkbook restoration completed in 1987 by Mini Motors (a British sports car restoration facility). The 100-6 won the “People’s Choice” award at the All British Field Meet in Portland, Oregon after the restoration was completed. I am listing the 100-6 for my friend’s parents that have owned and cared for the Healey the past 21 years.

HISTORY AND EQUIPMENT: The 100-6 was built May 9, 1958 and sold new here in Oregon. My friend’s father purchased the car in 1986 from a long time owner. I saw the car the day they brought it home and would characterize it as an excellent “survivor” car prior to restoration. I watched the entire restoration process through the stages in 1986-1987 at Mini Motors. The 100-6 is the rare BN6 2-seater version and was equipped from the factory with wire wheels, overdrive, laminated windscreen, duotone paint, Dunlop Roadspeed tires and a heater for Oregon’s climate. While being in very nice condition when they purchased the car in 1986 my friend’s parents decided to take the car to the next level and commissioned Mini Motors to do the restoration.

BODY AND PAINT: The car has absolutely no rust and has always been stored inside. Oregon doesn’t use road salt that explains the exceptional condition of the body. Enclosed are some photos of the undercarriage, notice the perfect original floor pans, trunk floor and sill assemblies. The Healey’s I’ve looked at on eBay that have undercarriage photos really make me appreciate this one! My friend’s parents chose Ferrari Rossa red when the car was restored. The paint is in excellent condition and a testament to the high quality restoration. I realize some bidders may not be able to view the car in person so I’m going to be very picky and describe the minor flaws in detail. There are a few minor indentations in the right front shroud due to something being dropped, the indentations are very minor and won’t show up in photos and are barely noticeable. The right front fender was scratched at the same time near the headlight. The forward right front fender was painted/blended and now that many years have passed you can see some slight color difference, again very minor. On the drivers door there is a small chip where the sidecurtian socket affixes to the door. The trunk lid has a minor crack in the paint where the handle mounts. I noticed for the first time when the car was on the lift that there are some minor runs at the bottom of the passenger door that you cannot see unless the car is up in the air. There are a few small chips that have been professionally touched up. Overall, the paint flaws are very minor and the body panel fit and paint is exceptional!

INTERIOR and MECHANICAL: The 100-6 had a complete proper interior kit installed in 1987 including correct leather seats. The top and toneau covers are also in excellent condition, the top has only been on the car a few times. The gauges are original to the car as is the windshield frame and cockpit moldings. The bumpers were re-chromed in restoration but the majority of trim is original. These items show some minor age related patina but are a testament to the originality of the car. The motor was completely rebuilt in 1987 along with the transmission, suspension, wiring harness, hydraulics, components etc. I would estimate the car has traveled less than 8,000 since the restoration was completed in 1987. The car runs and drives excellent and had a comprehensive brake rebuild including the master cylinder and wheel cylinders in 2005. The 100-6 just had the clutch slave and master cylinder replaced, full tune-up with plug wires, carburetors cleaned and adjusted, valve cover gasket, all hoses replaced and new coolant, new thermostat, new fuel pump, new exhaust header pipes and muffler and new Verdestein Sprint Classic tires and tubes. The only mechanical flaws would be the minor notorious oil seepage from the front and rear crankshaft seals; the rear seal will drip when parked. First gear and reverse are noisier than they should be but function properly. The factory overdrive functions properly. Overall, the car has been extensively maintained, serviced and runs and drives beautifully.

MISCELLANOUS: The 100-6 comes with a car cover, top, top assembly, side curtains and storage bag, tonneau cover, owner’s handbook, British Heritage Trust Certificate, and the medal from the "People's Choice Award". There was a stereo mounted to the bottom of the heater box when the car was restored, the stereo was subsequently liberated from the car at a State Park in 1991 and has not been replaced. The bottom of the heater box and control cable went with stereo and will need to be replaced. The stereo thief also stole the factory jack and tool roll but left the knock off hammer. The restoration folder that had a very large final number in 1987 was inadvertently shredded when my friend’s father closed his office last year. The shop that restored the car in 1986-1987 is still actively restoring British classics. License plate only goes to an Oregon purchaser.

This 100-6 offers an opportunity to purchase a very rare car that has been restored to a high standard. This is the way to buy a classic car in my opinion; the lengthy, painful and insanely expensive process of restoration can be avoided!

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
