Auction description:
Important Auctions of Fine Historic Motor Cars, H&H Classic Auctions Ltd (13th April 2005)
1957 AUSTIN HEALEY 100/6
According to the vendor, this 1957-built and claimed to be original right-hand drive 100/6 in red over cream with black leather interior and wire wheels has had just two owners from new and is an excellent example of the model. It has been restored to a high standard, he says, though not overly so, so that it remains a very useable sportscar. Claimed to be mechanically perfect with 2600cc six reportedly in excellent order and with four-speed mechanical gearbox, also very good, having the benefit of an overdrive which results in much more relaxed motorway cruising. The electrical equipment is said also to be in excellent condition. The 971 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale is almost certainly the total mileage driven since restoration. The MOT has been freshly passed and therefore the current certificate will be valid until March of next year.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
