This 1956 Austin-Healey BN2 roadster is one of 640 100M examples produced over a 10-month span and was completed on March 15, 1956 in North American specification for dispatch to the USA. The car reportedly underwent a refurbishment performed by BMC Classics of Edgewater, Florida, in 2002 and was purchased by the selling dealer from its previous owner of 20 years in 2023. Finished in red and black over black leather, the car is powered by a 2,660cc inline-four linked to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes 15″ wire wheels, twin SU carburetors, Lucas driving lamps, a louvered hood with leather straps, a folding windshield, a black soft top, a heater, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. Service performed in preparation for the sale involved replacing the tires, distributor cap, spark plug wires, and a freeze plug as well as adjusting the rear brakes and changing the oil. This 100M is now offered by the selling dealer with a black tonneau cover, side curtains, tools, a Lucas distributor, an owner’s handbook, a 100M “Le Mans” Registry Certificate of Membership, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, recent service records, and a clean Pennsylvania title.
Finished from the factory in Reno Red with contrasting black lower bodywork, the car was refinished during the aforementioned refurbishment in the early 2000s. Features include chrome bumpers with overriders, Lucas driving lamps, a 100M grille badge, a louvered hood with leather straps, and a folding windshield. A black tonneau cover and side curtains are included in the sale.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels feature two-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with 165-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires that were installed in preparation for the sale. A spare wheel and tire are stowed in the trunk. The car features an independent front suspension and a live rear axle with leaf springs. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes, and the rear units were adjusted in preparation for the sale.
The cockpit features bucket seats trimmed in black leather along with a color-coordinated dash, door panels, and floor mats. Equipment includes a heater, a passenger grab handle, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a leather central armrest, and lap belts. The black soft top is stowed behind the seats. The aluminum cockpit surround trim pieces are stamped with the car’s body number, 12789.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, a fuel gauge, and a combination oil pressure and water temperature gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 43k miles, approximately 40 of which were added by the selling dealer. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2,660cc inline-four features twin SU carburetors, a cold-air box, and a finned aluminum valve cover. Output was factory-rated at 110 horsepower. A replacement distributor cap, spark plug wires, and a freeze plug were installed in preparation for the sale, at which time an oil change was performed.
The engine tag is stamped with 1B231309M, which matches the number listed on the 100M “Le Mans” Registry Certificate of Membership below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with an electrically operated overdrive unit.
The 100M “Le Mans” Registry Certificate of Membership was issued in September 2023 and lists the car’s chassis, engine, and body numbers. The BMIHT certificate can be viewed in the galley below along with the owner’s handbook, tools, and spare parts.
