This 1956 Austin-Healey BN2 was converted to 100M specification under prior ownership and was acquired by the seller seven years ago. The current owner spent five years restoring the car with Healey Werks, including refurbishing and refinishing the bodywork, suspension, driveline, and more detailed below. The car has been refinished in the original Old English White over black lower bodywork, with aluminum and steel body panels. Conversion work included a rebuild of the 2.6L inline-four by marque specialist Leo Rouf, with fitment of 100M-specification pistons, intake, camshaft, carburetors, and more detailed below. This Austin-Healey is now offered with records from the refurbishment, a 29-page summary of the work performed, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Indiana title.

The steel and aluminum bodywork stripped to bare metal prior to refinishing in the original Old English White with black lower surfaces. The car is equipped with a 100M-style louvered hood and an adjustable-rake windscreen. The factory grille has been re-chromed, and that the finish was hand-rubbed and polished.

New chrome-spoked wires wheels are fitted with winged knock-off lugs, and are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The spare is finished in Old English White, and is secured in the trunk with leather straps.

The five-year refurbishment undertaken with Healey Werks by the current owner is documented both in photos on the Healey Werks website, and in a summary document provided by the seller. The work performed included correcting and truing the steel and aluminum bodywork, refinishing the body, suspension components, driveline components, and more detailed on an attached summary document.

The cabin is upholstered in black leather with white piping, and features matching black carpets and a painted black dash fascia. The car is equipped with low-back bucket seats and a set of light grey motorsport-style lap belts with leather protectors.

The banjo-spoke steering wheel features a black bakelite rim, and instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, 6k-rpm tachometer, a combination oil pressure and coolant temperature gauge, and a fuel level gauge. 70,400 miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer, approximately 300 of which were added by the seller.

The engine was converted to 100M specification by Healey specialist Leo Ruof during a rebuild commissioned under prior ownership. The conversion included enlarged carburetors, a freer flowing intake, a cold-air intake airbox assembly, a high-lift camshaft, and 8.1:1 compression pistons. Healey advertised the conversion in period as increasing output from 90 to 110 horsepower. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive on the top two gears.

The engine number corresponds to the number shown on the included British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate. The car has reportedly covered fewer than 400 miles since the engine rebuild, and other components installed by Mr. Ruof reportedly included the following:

Polished aluminum valve cover
Rebuilt distributor
Stainless steel exhaust system
Cleaned radiator
Rebuilt transmission
New synchronization and lay shaft
New clutch and pressure plate
New accumulator housing with a rebuilt overdrive unit
New fuel lines from the fuel tank to engine

The brake system was replaced, and details of the brake and suspension work performed by the current owner are provided in the 29-page document detailing the work performed by Healey Werks is attached. Photos are provided showing the front brake calipers and other associated hardware. Additional photos of the underside are provided and show the floors, suspension components, inner wheel wells, and more.

A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate is included and shows the factory engine and transmission colors, as well as the original color combination.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
