I believe this Healey 100S was originally bought and raced by Briggs Cunningham in the USA. The car was shipped to the USA on 10 February 1955, with engine number 1B222701 and modified gearbox number 17437/1. It was the first 'S' 100 to be imported into America.

Richard, you are correct, 1st one brought to USA. It was a factory car sent for team Cunningham to race in Seabring. The day after the race my grandfather, Robert Wittke purchased it for ~$3500, and raced it for nearly two years in various SCCA events.

It was also the only 100s with a blue stripe over the bonnet, and no blue on the sides. It also had a distinctive hole cut below the front grill for additional cooling.

I've spent the past 5 years trying to track this vehicle down...

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
